10 Annoying Things People Do On Twitter
What bugs you on twitter?
Because every self respecting blog needs a top 10 list about something, here is my Top 10 annoying things people do on twitter
10) DM you after you add them and say: Thanks for following me, join me on (facebook, myspace, URL of some sort)
- It just bugs me, if i wanted to follow people on a different network i would.
9) Add you, remove you, add you again
- What a sad way at getting followers
Tweet: Good morning
- I dont know why this bugs me, but it does
7) #followfriday @personA @personB
- This was a good idea at first, but now, its just too much, twitter on Friday is a waste land of follow this and follow that, there should be a rule, you can only recommend up to 5 people on followfriday
6) Please get me X more followers before I hit X
- What is the deal with getting these followers, as if this is the end goal of Twitter.
5) welcome new followers @persona @personb
- I dont get it, I cringe when i see my name in that list of welcomes.
4)Tweet: ” I have no idea how this works” or “tweet” or” trying to figure out twitter”
3) No pic – no image – empty profile
- come on man, your on a social network for bananas sake, tell us your name at least
2) following thousands – 0 tweets
- Happens with newbies who all they care for is followers, for those, i have a special block button
1) Following 0 – followed by many
This bugs me the most. And the person that bugs me the most is non other than Dr Phil @DrPhil. Dr Phil thinks that no one on twitter has anything of value to say, no one, not @garyvee, not @chrisbroagan, no one. You know how twitter has a rule where it blocks people from adding more than 2000 people. Twitter should implement a rule that blocks people from getting more than 2000 followers if they don’t follow anyone. If you are too good to follow anyone on twitter then you need some help, Dr Phil, know anyone?
What bugs you on twittter?

I hate when people post nothing but links (I know I’m guilty of this on some days) promoting their own websites. I mean, I understand you can use it to talk about web stuff, but seriously, get into some conversations.
I also hate it when people @ me to say “hi.” Like…it just creeps me out.
I think we are all guilty of that one
Brightkite updates. They are torture. I really don’t care what precise geographic location someone is currently at. I don’t care that you’re at Target pharmacy or your office or the city where you live.
Not that I feel strongly about it or anything…
Good list!
#9, This is the biggest one for me, read my profile and don’t keep asking to re-follow.
#10 and don’t send me your links. Say hello first.
People who don’t reply when you tweet them.
People who all they do it RT and never say anything on there
own.
by the way I do say ” Good Morning” and I really mean it.
I’m definitely guilty of a couple of these (maybe more than a couple) and many of them are on my pet peeves list as well!
I’ve been guilty of number 9, mostly because I’m finding following too many people is a bit overwhelming for me – I lose out on feeling connected. So I may stop following someone for a while (it could also be because they were guilty of #’s 3, 5, or 6) then have our tweet streams cross again, and re-follow. (That said, I’m dead set against those who do it to game the system and get more followers!).
It’s interesting that you included #7. I agree that it’s become more of an opportunity for a shout out, than a useful way to connect with new people. In a warm fuzzy way, I *do* like that it’s become a way to show appreciation to people you like following. But I do feel a bit obligated to participate/reciprocate. Even worse – people who respond to my #followfriday tweet with a “what about me?” tweet!!! THAT is tops on my top 10 list!!
What I’ve started to realize is that at the end of the day, I can overlook most of my peeves if the “violating” person is someone whose tweets I generally enjoy or that I’ve made a connection with.
Fun post! Thanks for letting me ramble with my two cents!
The point of followfriday i think is to recommend someone, maybe 2, maybe 3. Maybe you know someone is new to twitter but has a lot to offer and needs a kick start. or someone you really enjoy reading. but it has become way too much, friday i look at my twitter feed and its full of @ this and @ that. It has lost its value. If i got the “what about me?” it would drive me insane.
I have to say, i have not yet seen a #followfriday @chrisbrogan, so if you are good, you really dont need the boost after all.
Dare you recommend anyone for #unfollowmonday?
Great list! This matches pretty much all the things that annoy me, except the people who only tweet about their business “Going to a meeting about [Special Product X]“, “[Special Product X] is going to blow all the competition out of the water”, “I can’t believe [this company] – they need some help from [Special Product X]“
It also bugs me when I tweet @ someone and then they DM me a response. I feel like they are trying to hide that they are talking to me. Its petty. but whatevs. great list!

sorry for posting twice!
I have to say i am guilty of that sometime but not because i have bad intent, i just think a) the conversion now needs to go off line or b) if there is a lot of @’s going back and forth then i think it may annoy other followers
Another thing that makes me smile is when someone tweet the following
Hi @personA, i just Dm’ed you
