LOL!! You are making me laugh.

I actually follow the woman who started women2follow. I was there as she developed the conversation with others and then launched it.

Having that personal connection made it easier to accept, but I agree with you. For someone new coming in, it looks like a 3-ring circus!

Right now, so much of this is viral: Tweetups, Tweetshirts, Ink Mogo cards, TwitterGroups. No one has a way to really organize this yet for the newbie, except individual bloggers pointing "go here" or "go there" (Mashable, Twi5)

For the moment, I think that newbies will have to do what I did a little over a month ago; jump in, follow someone and start talking.

I agree with Judith and did just that last Friday...name, why I follow them, tag...it worked great and I only suggested two tweeple. I think many times people get guilted into returning the favor. Rather than being guilted into a return I think it should be accepted as a compliment. A simple "thanks for the #followfriday" is much better!

I don't think doing away with it is the only answer though. I've connected with some great people through #followfriday.

Judith

No "rate me" I agree. I also agree with company comment, and i think that is why i thought it was a good idea when someone suggested companies should pay a fee to be on twitter. I tweet for my work, and would be happy to pay a reasonable fee.

But we still need a way qwick way to figure out who to follow. Again look at the madness on #followfriday, its badly needed. Apps, yes they can do it, MrTweet, Wefollow get a nod from me as well, but again way to many apps on twitter, i cant keep track, and i am on twtter all day, how will a twitter newbie figure out this mess?

I admit the stream of names is a pain in the neck. And with no explanation of why I should follow them, I barely glance at them. I like the way WeFollow only allows 3 groups. Keeps people on their toes. Okay, do you hear people, 3 FollowFriday Tweeple and that's it! And, tell me why I should even want to follow those people.

But I don't want a rating system. Please! Do we need to start rating tweeple? Or if it is a company and a bunch of Tweeters want to take them down, will they be allowed to rate it out of existence (at least on Twitter, that is)?

Now, a referral system is a better idea. Find a way to make referrals in a quick Tweet app and I will be there. That sound doable. I'd like to see a nice referral/introduction kind of thing: Ms. Tweet, meet Mr and Mrs Twouple.

But please no popularity contests, no "rate me!, rate me!" tweets and no bribes with giveaways to raise ratings. Don't add another reason for the stream to turn into the rapids.

I hear what you are saying, some people now literally have tweet after tweet that is only lists of names, I saw one guy list 8 Tweets IN A ROW, all just lists of names. Excuse me but, what the hell value does that have.

Always a few in every group that kinda take it too far. One mention, and a reason why is still nice, but the sea of names means I no longer even look up the #followfriday search. Has too little value.
