They most likely utter a swear word at how goddamn annoying it is, and then contemplate the prospect of having to unfollow someone they care about because of the incessant stream of "I'm the mayor of some coffee shop" or "I've unlocked the whatever badge." NOBODY, and I mean nobody, gives a damn about this -- it is the equivalent of junk mail in your followers' Twitter feeds. If you want to play the game yourself in your Foursquare software, that's one thing. Nobody else cares, and it is actively annoying. I don't use the software myself, so I'm not sure if there's a way for you to turn off tweeting when you become mayor of a place. If there is, for the sake of all your friends and followers, please turn that function off. Your friends and followers will thank you, and might just keep following you.
